Internet Heating Controls Guide

Internet heating controls

The growing demand for greater convenience in everything has recently hit the heating controls market, with many manufacturers jumping on board to create their own version of a controller that utilises the internet.

More than just fancy new technology, the real advantage of internet enabled controllers lies in their ability to be programmed and controlled from anywhere in the world - providing there is internet access! On the face of it, this may seem or feel like a gimic, but the application of these devices is perfectly practical.

Traditional wireless controllers suffer from the main disadvantage in that they have a limited working range, usually 50 metres. For most domestic properties, this range is more than enough, however if the signal has to pass through multiple walls then the singal strength can decrease to the point of not working properly (This can often be more true if your boiler has a flap that conceals the controller).

The Internet Heating Controls Guide describes the main selling points of some of the most popular devices currently on the market. It's worth remembering that we stock all of the Internet Heating Controls below and offer FREE delivery on all orders over £50 ex VAT.

NestNest Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat not only controls your heating temperature, but also the schedule, which eliminates the need for a programmer. It also acts as a frost stat, preventing frost accumulating in the system during subzero temperatures.

The Nest Thermostat learns about your regular schedule, and adjusts the heating accordingly. For example, if you start to turn the temperture up in the evenings, the Nest will eventually start to do this automaticaly.

It will also track and record how much energy your heating is using over a 10 day period, and send you monthly energy reports which allow you to make adjustments to save on your bills. The Nest is a handy smart package that can do it all from the simplicity of a smartphone app.

Compatibility:

  • Combi and condensing boilers
  • System and heat only boilers
  • Hydronic underfloor systems
  • Air source and ground source heat pumps (heating only)
  • Zoned systems (one Nest Thermostat per zone)
  • Switched live systems
  • Low-voltage (dry contact) systems
